Cardinal Declaws Wildcats

TUCSON, Ariz. – No. 10 Stanford left little doubt during Friday’s Pac-12 Conference dual meet at No. 14 Arizona while picking up a 160-101 win at Hillenbrand Aquatic Center. The Cardinal men’s swimming and diving team won nine of 14 events.

Stanford (4-0) eyes a weekend sweep when it visits Arizona State for an 11 a.m. (PT) matchup Saturday.

Patrick Conaton was a double winner in the 100- and 200-yard backstroke, while David Nolan and Thomas Stephens stood up well in the sprint events.

Conaton’s 100 back win came in 49.04, and his 1:47.96 bested the pack in the 200 variety.

Nolan’s 20.12 in the 50-yard freestyle was .01 away from knotting the race with Arizona’s Bradley Tandy. However, Nolan came back with a 44.11 in the 100-yard freestyle, winning the race in front of Stephens (44.71) and Sam Perry (45.36).

The Cardinal even kept enough in the tank to go 1-2 in the meet-ending 400-yard freestyle relay with respective times of 2:58.67 and 3:01.62.

Nolan, Christian Brown, Gray Umbach and Perry went 1:29.41 for second in the 200-yard medley relay.

Daniel Le’s 56.23 was silver-worthy in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Tom Kremer (1:47.88) and Umbach (1:47.93) posted a 1-2 finish in the 200-yard butterfly.

Umbach (48.64), Andrew Liang (49.08) and Tom Kremer (49.67) went 1-2-3 in the 100-yard butterfly.
