STANFORD, Calif. - No. 8 Stanford defeated No. 44 Saint Mary’s 5-2 on Friday afternoon at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
For the second straight day, the Cardinal (2-0) survived a hard-fought doubles point to take a 1-0 advantage. The No. 3 tandem of Krista Hardebeck and Lindsey Kostas clinched the point with a 6-4 win.
Stanford was the deeper team in singles play, collecting victories at four of the six spots. Taylor Davidson polished off Jana McCord 7-5, 6-1 at the No. 2 position to provide the clincher.
With the match already decided, Saint Mary’s (1-2) collected two points on the back courts. Jamie Pawid squeaked past Hardebeck 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (13) on court four while Parminder Kaur edged Kostas 7-6 (1), 6-4 on court six.
Stanford will be challenged next weekend with a trip to South Bend, Ind. The Cardinal faces host Notre Dame on Friday, Feb. 6, before tangling with Ohio State on Saturday, Feb. 7.
