STANFORD, Calif. - No. 39 Stanford notched its first shutout of the season, blanking Sacramento State 7-0 on Tuesday afternoon at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
Winners of three in a row, the Cardinal (4-2) quickly locked up the doubles point for a 1-0 lead and coasted through singles play with straight-set victories at each position.
John Morrissey posted a 6-2, 6-0 win against Roy Brandys at the No. 3 spot, extending Stanford’s lead to 2-0.
Robert Stineman’s 6-4, 6-1 triumph over Christopher Clayton on court six put the Cardinal on the verge of securing the match.
The clincher came from Tom Fawcett, who breezed past Sean Kolar 6-1, 6-1 at the top spot of the lineup. Fawcett improved his team-best overall record to 16-4.
Stanford also received wins from Nolan Paige at No. 5, Maciek Romanowicz at No. 4 and David Wilczynski at No. 2. In five duals, Wilczynski has now played at every spot of the lineup except No. 1.
The Cardinal travels to No. 14 California on Saturday, Feb. 21, for a 10 a.m. contest. However, only the rematch on April 18 at Taube Family Tennis Stadium will count toward the Pac-12 standings.
