STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford utilized big swings and timely hitting to earn a 4-3 victory against UC Davis on Wednesday night at Boyd and Jill Smith Family Stadium.

The Cardinal (8-4) showcased its power against the Aggies (4-8), registering 11 hits including three doubles and a home run. The extra base hits came during crucial moments, especially the final two doubles which put Stanford back in the lead after falling behind in the top of the sixth inning.

“We’re still learning to play the game at a consistent level and hopefully we got a little better at it tonight,” said Stanford head coach Rachel Hanson. “We had some players that worked hard at playing at that same level tonight and they picked the team up.”

Bessie Noll opened the scoring for the Cardinal in the third inning with a monster home run to dead center field. After Kaitlin Schaberg forced a walk in the next at-bat, Arden Pettit followed with her first career double to score a run and put Stanford up 2-0.

Haley Snyder (6-4) kept the Aggies off the board through the first five innings but ran into trouble in the sixth when Ashley Lotoszynski belted a three-run home run to give UC Davis a 3-2 lead. Snyder continued to battle and got out of the inning without any additional damage.

Snyder finished the game with one strikeout, allowing three runs on six hits and three walks in 6.0 innings.

The Cardinal responded in the bottom half of the sixth beginning with a leadoff single by Tylyn Wells. After Wells stole second, Kayla Bonstrom hammered an RBI-double to the left-centerfield gap to knot the game at 3-3.

Cassandra Roulund stepped to the plate and drilled the first pitch she saw to nearly the exact same spot as Bonstrom for an RBI-double and the lead.

“We’ve been focused on being resilient this year and they understand that concept and continued to battle,” said Hanson.

Madi Schreyer (2-0) came in as relief in the seventh and picked up her first save of the season and the second of her career.

The Cardinal will look to carry its momentum into this weekend when it travels to Cathedral City, California, for the Mary Nutter Classic. Four of the five teams Stanford will see are either ranked or receiving votes in at least one of the two national polls.

“This is going to be a weekend where everyone we face is going to be a good team and we’re going to have to compete every game,” said Hanson.
