Making a Charge

SAN JOSE DEL CABO, Mexico – The Stanford men’s golf team moved up one spot to second among the 14-team field at the Querencia Cabo Collegiate and Viraat Badhwar sits in a three-way tie for first after Monday’s round.

Stanford was one of three teams to finish under par and trails leader South Florida by one stroke. The Cardinal recorded a 6-under 278 and is now 8-under through 36 holes.

Badhwar followed his opening-round 4-under with a 3-under 68 to share first with Washington’s Cheng-Tsung Pan and South Florida’s Rigel Fernandes. Badhwar bogeyed the par-3 second and went on to drop four birdies on the next 16 holes.

“It was a great team effort today, and we were excited about moving up the leaderboard,” said Knowles Family Director of Men’s Golf Conrad Ray.

The three-day tournament concludes Tuesday with live results available at GoStanford.com.

Ray and the Cardinal are seeking a fourth straight top-10 finish.

David Boote, who is tied for 11th, shot a 1-under 70 and Maverick McNealy bounced back from a 74 with a 2-under 69. McNealy is tied for 17th at 1-over.

Jeffrey Swegle is tied for 17th at 1-over after an even-par round and Franklin Huang posted his second straight 1-over 72.
