STANFORD, Calif. - No. 43 Stanford won its third straight match on Friday afternoon, defeating Utah 6-1 at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
Playing the third of four matches over a six-day span, Stanford (9-4, 1-0 Pac-12) wasted little time in dispatching of Utah (10-7, 0-1 Pac-12) in the conference opener for both teams.
After capturing the doubles point for a 1-0 lead, the Cardinal produced five straight-set singles victories.
David Hsu blanked Santiago Sierra 6-0, 6-0 on court six before John Morrissey extended Stanford’s lead to 3-0 following a 6-3, 6-0 triumph over Parker McGuiness at the No. 2 spot.
Robert Stineman secured the match with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Johan Jonhagen at the No. 5 position.
The Utes received their only point from Matt Cowley on court four.
Stanford concludes its busy week on Saturday, hosting Arizona at 2 p.m. PT.
