Redwood City, Calif. - After a hectic last three weekends in which Stanford sailed in nine events across six states, the Cardinal was treated to friendly waters and played host to two events in nearby Redwood City this past weekend.

The Bryson Women’s Regatta was handily won by the host Cardinal, with the B and A boats finishing first and second, respectively.

Cardinal B was skippered by Julia Lambert with Alex Archer serving as the crew. Cardinal A was skippered by Sarah Lucas, with a crew of Maeve White

Stanford won five of its first seven races and never looked back, cruising to a combined 67 points. The second place USC Trojans finished with 132 points, nearly twice as many as the impressive Cardinal.

In the 18-team Cardinal Invite, visiting teams were again thwarted by the hosts, who entered four two-man crews in the event.

Cardinal No. 1, skippered by Kieran Chung with a crew of Haley Kirk, won the event with a 23-point total from 11 races. The senior tandem, both of whom hail from Southern California, overcame a poor seventh place finish in the opening race to finish with a clinical seven wins in its final nine races.

Fittingly enough, the junior duo of skipper Axel Sly and crewman Noelle Herring came up just short to its elder Cardinal counterpart. Cardinal No. 3 had the upper hand after three races, which included second and first-place finishes to begin the weekend. On a day where Chung and Kirk were going to be hard to beat, however, Sly and Herring had to settle for a respectable second-place trophy.

The other two Stanford boats in the field were manned with less-experienced crews but turned in strong showings nonetheless. Cardinal No. 4 was skippered by freshman Elena VandenBerg with a crew of sophomore Scott Buckstaff and finished fifth. Cardinal No. 2, manned by freshman skipper Amelia Hardy and sophomore crewman Daniel Ron, finished ninth.

The White Division, in which Stanford did not enter a boat, UC Irvine’s Anteater No. 2 edged out Anteater No. 1 to win the 16-team division.

Once again, Stanford will scatter across the nation this upcoming weekend for three events in three states. Down the California coast, the Cardinal will race in the Carley Dole Memorial Women’s Conference Championship. In Annapolis, Maryland, Navy will host its annual spring regattas, and the President’s Trophy Women’s Regattas will take place in Boston.
