STANFORD, Calif. – The Stanford men’s volleyball regular season is coming to a close as the Cardinal hosts UC Santa Barbara on Saturday, April 18 at 5:30 p.m. It marks the final home match for the five Stanford seniors, who will be recognized with a Senior Night ceremony after the match.
GoStanford.com will highlight each senior this week leading up to the match on Saturday. First up is fifth-year senior libero/defensive specialist Grant Delgado.
A native of Rolling Hills Estates, California, Delgado will graduate this June with a double major in management science and engineering and geophysics. He played an integral role during the Cardinal’s run to the 2014 national title match, earning Volleyball Magazine Third Team All-America honors and honorable mention All-MPSF. Delgado is also a two-time MPSF All-Academic selection.
GoStanford: Looking back, what are some of your favorite memories with Stanford volleyball?
GD: My favorite memory with Stanford volleyball was the tremendous end of the season run we had at the end of the 2013-2014 season. Playing in the National Championship match is an unforgettable experience.
GoStanford: What do you know now that you wish you knew as a freshman?
GD: Way back when I was a freshman, I wish I knew how fast college would fly by. I also wish I knew how much that per diem adds up!
GoStanford: What do you think you will miss most about this team?
GD: I will miss the amazing Stanford volleyball family that I have been lucky enough to be a part of for the past five years. I have had the opportunity to make lifelong friendships with amazing people, and I will undoubtedly miss seeing these guys every day.
GoStanford: Off the court, what has been the best thing you have experienced at Stanford?
GD: The best thing that I have experienced at Stanford off the court was our European tour trip through Italy, France, and Spain. Hiking through Cinqueterra was a highlight!
GoStanford: What has been your favorite class at Stanford and why?
GD: My favorite class at Stanford has been Economic Sociology with Professor Mark Granovetter. The class offered a unique perspective to critical sociological and philosophical issues that I found fascinating.
GoStanford: What will you miss most about being a college student?
GD: I will miss it all! I think I will really miss being around the energetic Stanford environment where I am pushed to constantly learn and grow. My Stanford experience has been remarkable, and I look forward to being an alumnus to such an amazing place.
GoStanford: What are your plans for after graduation?
GD: My post-graduation plans are undetermined. I am contemplating continuing my volleyball career, as well as beginning my professional career.
