STANFORD, Calif. - No. 24 Stanford collected its 10th straight victory on Tuesday afternoon, defeating No. 55 San Francisco 4-2 at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
Reaching its highest national ranking since checking in at No. 19 in February 2013, Stanford (16-4, 6-0 Pac-12) picked up two critical singles victories with the match knotted at 2-2.
The Cardinal is riding its longest winning streak since notching 13 consecutive victories in 2011.
Tuesday’s match represented the first meeting between the schools since 2011. Stanford improved to 8-0 all-time against San Francisco.
After locking up the doubles point for a 1-0 lead, David Hsu followed with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph on court six to make it 2-0.
San Francisco (12-8, 5-3 WCC) responded with a pair of singles wins to even the match at 2-2.
David Wilczynski’s 6-4, 6-4 victory at the No. 2 spot put Stanford back in front 3-2 before Robert Stineman provided the clincher with a 6-4, 6-4 win at the No. 3 position.
Stanford can now look ahead to Saturday’s regular-season finale (2 p.m. PT) against No. 28 California. The Cardinal has clinched at least a share of the Pac-12 title, something it last accomplished in 2010. With a victory, Stanford can claim the conference crown outright for the first time since 2003.
