STANFORD, Calif. – The No. 14 Stanford men’s rowing team will host races for the third straight weekend as they welcome No. 2 Cal, No. 11 Wisconsin and No. 17 Oregon State to Redwood Shores.
Racing will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning with morning duals between Cal and Wisconsin and Stanford and Oregon State. Saturday afternoon will feature a dual between Wisconsin and Oregon State, while Stanford will racing the California Rowing Club/USA training center in an exhibition race to match Wisconsin in number of races on Saturday to make Sunday’s dual even.
The Cardinal and Wisconsin will go head-to-head beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday with the varsity eight. The 2V8 will follow at 10 a.m. and the 3V8/F8 at 10:15 a.m. Oregon State will also race the California Rowing Club/USA training center on Sunday.
Following Sunday’s races there will be a boat dedication ceremony with Alex Osborne ’09, a 2012 Olympian, and his parents Al and Nancy.
Stanford faced both Oregon State and Washington last year. The Cardinal varsity eight came out on top against the Beavers, both in the regular season in Vancouver, Wash. and at the Pac-12 Championships on Lake Natoma. OSU took the 2V8 and 3V8/F8 races both times. Stanford topped the Badgers at last year’s Stanford Invitational in the varsity eight and fell to Wisconsin in the 2V8 and 3V8/F8. The two school also faced each other at the IRA National Championships in the repechage with Wisconsin finishing in front both in the varsity eight and 2V8.
Entering the weekend the Cardinal has won six straight races with a sweep of UC San Diego last Sunday. It was the first wins of the year for the varsity eight and 2V8, while the 3V8 now has three victories after winning the San Diego Crew Classic to start the year.
