CARSON, Calif. – Jordan Morris has made quite a name for himself at the expense of Mexico in just one week. Seven days after starting and scoring for the U.S. Men’s National Team in its 2-0 win over El Tri in San Antonio, the Stanford sophomore did so again on Wednesday night, this time for the U-23s in that squad’s 3-0 victory against Mexico in Carson, California.
In the 68th minute, Luis Gil sent a high looping ball to the far side of the six-yard box off a corner. Shane O’Neill ripped in a hard, one-time cross as the ball bounced to him and Morris met the pass with a leaping, left-footed volley that powered into the goal for the final margin.
Only thing left for @JmoSmooth13 is to score on Mexico as the @Stanford Tree #TresACero #DosGolsUnaSemana #StayClean pic.twitter.com/VLDoSHGPp0

Morris, the only active collegian on the U-23 roster for this camp, has now scored in two consecutive games at that level. On March 27 in Tuzla, he scored the opening goal in the U-23 MNT’s 5-2 win against Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Following that match he was elevated to the USMNT for its friendly against 12th-ranked Switzerland in Zurich on March 31, a game in which he came on in the 89th minute. Last November, he became the first active collegian since 1995 to receive a cap for the USMNT when he came on in the 76th minute in a friendly against Ireland in Dublin. An earlier call up to the national team camp for its Sept. 3 friendly against the Czech Republic in Prague made him the first current collegian to join the USMNT in 15 years.
At the senior level in the Alamodome last Wednesday, Morris became the first collegian to score for the USMNT in over 20 years when he pounced on a ricochet at the top of the penalty area in the 49th minute and slid the ball between the legs of goalkeeper Cirilo Saucedo from 10 yards.
