MIAMI – The Stanford sand volleyball wrapped up the Doctors Hospital Surf and Turf Invitational with a 5-0 sweep over Webber International, Saturday, at Lummus Park on South Beach in Miami.
Four Cardinal pairs won in straight sets against the Warriors, while Jordan Burgess and Merete Lutz forced a third set at No. 3 after dropping the first.
Stanford’s top-two teams, Lauren Birks and Brittany Howard at No. 1 and Madi Bugg and Ivana Vanjak at No. 2, both finished the weekend with a 3-1 record.
Playing in an exhibition match for Stanford against Webber was Sidney Brown and Petra Grutzik. The pair defeated Kalei Levy and Vikki Parzygnat, 21-18, 21-16.
The Cardinal returns to The Farm next week to host the Stanford Invitational, April 10-12. Stanford will face Oregon, UCLA and Cal Poly in dual matches before competing in a pairs tournament. Saint Mary’s, Santa Clara and Washington will also be participating.
