Edman Earns Academic Honor

STANFORD, Calif. -- Stanford sophomore Tommy Edman was named to the Capital One Academic All-District Baseball Team for District 8, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced Thursday. Edman becomes eligible for the Academic All-America team, which will be announced later this season.

Edman has excelled on the field and in the classroom throughout his first two years on The Farm. The math and computational science major with a 3.83 GPA is hitting .287 with team-leading marks in doubles (12), runs (39) and RBI (26).

The switch-hitter became a household name among Cardinal fans last season when he sent Stanford to the Super Regional with a walk-off home run to beat Indiana in the Bloomington Regional final. He has carried the success to 2015, splitting time between the No. 1 and No. 3 spots in the order as the only Cardinal to start every game.

Edman has also been one of the best fielding infielders in the conference, committing just five errors at second base for a .979 fielding percentage.

The San Diego, California, native’s GPA ranks second among District 8 selections and first among infielders. He is one of 12 sophomores in the nation to earn Academic All-District recognition.

Edman is aiming to give Stanford its third Academic All-American in the last four years, joining Kenny Diekroeger and Danny Diekroeger. Stanford, USC and Washington State are the only Pac-12 programs to produce multiple Academic All-Americans since 2012.
