REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - Stanford got off to a flawless start at the PCCSC Coed Sailing Championships today. After 13 races on day one, Stanford holds an outstanding 13 point total, having won every contest of the day.

"I can't remember a more dominant performance," said head coach John Vandemoer. "We played our game and never looked back."

The Cardinal holds an enormous lead over second-place UC Santa Barbara, who finished the day with 41 points. With such a big advantage, Vandemoer hinted that there may be some new faces in the lineup on Saturday for Stanford.

"The lead is great but we need to continue to keep the hammer down with some different players tomorrow, and give our seniors a rest before Sunday's team race championships, " said the seventh year coach.

Sailing in the A division for the Cardinal was the senior duo of skipper Kieran Chung and crew Haley Kirk. The familiar pair sailed perfectly, winning all six of its races on Friday.

Stanford's B-unit was skippered by senior Hans Henken with a crew of sophomore Nikki Obel. Like the A-team, Henken and Obel were perfect on the day, winning each of their seven contests.

The coed championships will conclude tomorrow afternoon. On Sunday, Stanford will look to claim the PCCSC Team Race Championships, also to be held in Redwood City.
