STANFORD, Calif. – The No. 6 Stanford women’s rowing team will try and win its second straight Pac-12 Championship on Sunday at Lake Natoma.
The Pac-12 Championships will feature four teams ranked among the top seven in the country and six ranked teams overall. Washington is the No. 2 team behind Ohio State and Cal is ranked No. 4 overall. Both teams received two first place votes this week. Stanford is followed by No. 7 Washington State. USC is No. 14 and UCLA is No. 17 this week.
Stanford has had some great results for the varsity eight this year, winning five races on the year. The 2V8 and varsity four each have a pair of victories, while the novice eight will race for the first time this season.
Last year the Cardinal surprised the field by capturing its first Pac-12 Championship. Stanford won the varsity four, 2V8 and varsity eight races to run away with the title.
Aside from last year’s championship, the Cardinal has notched second place finishes seven times. The varsity eight has won three titles, winning last year, in 2009 and 2003. The 2V8 has won three of the last five years, taking the crown in 2010, 2011 and 2014. Last season was the first time the varsity four had won a Pac-12 title. The highest the novice eight has placed was second in 2010.
