BALTIMORE, Md. – Three Stanford lacrosse players and one assistant coach have been invited to the U.S. women’s national team tryouts, from June 12-14 at Johns Hopkins University.
Stanford juniors Andrienne Anderson, Alexandra Crerend, and Lucy Dikeou, plus veteran U.S. national-team goalie Liz Hogan, a Cardinal assistant, will be among 108 players taking part in the three-day tryout. Also, Stanford head coach Amy Bokker is an assistant coach for the U.S. team.
Crerend will be among 33 attackers, Dikeou among 38 midfielders, Anderson among 28 defenders, and Hogan among nine goalies. Forty-eight players are current college juniors or younger.
After the tryout, approximately 36-40 players will be selected to the 2015-16 U.S. national team, which will train in the lead-up to the 2017 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) Women’s World Cup in Guildford, England. Ultimately, 18 players will represent the U.S. as the team goes for a third consecutive and eighth overall world title.
Dikeou and Anderson were named to the IWLCA All-America and All-West/Midwest Region teams. Both were first-team All-Region selections, with Dikeou earning second-team All-America honors and Anderson third team. Dikeou led Stanford with 48 goals and set a school season record with 64 draw controls. Anderson was Stanford’s top one-on-one defender.
Crerend emerged during her first season as a starter during Stanford’s 15-3 campaign. Crerend, in her second season after transferring from Brown, scored 31 goals and had nine assists, and also was outstanding on the draw, both in taking it and controlling. She was named to the MPSF All-Tournament team after scoring three goals in the final, a 16-11 victory over USC, that completed a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation regular-season and tournament double.
