STANFORD, Calif. – Lindsay Meyer ’12 earned the opportunity to compete at the 2015 Pan American Games with her first place finish in the women’s 2x at the Pan American Trials on Wednesday.
Meyer and Nicole Ritchie were locked in to a tight race with the SoCal/RBC duo of Stesha Carle and Hayley Daniell and the USTC-Princeton duo of Keziah Beall and Molly Hamrick.
During the time trials on Sunday, Beall and Hamrick had the fastest time with Carle/Daniell under two seconds back and Meyer/Ritchie nearly six seconds slower. In the semifinals on Monday, Carle/Daniell topped Meyer/Ritchie by 12 seconds in the first heat and Beall/Hamrick won the second heat by 19 seconds.
This time around the race was much faster and much closer. Less than two seconds separated the top three boats in the four-boat race. Meyer and Ritchie were able to squeeze out a victory by 0.56 seconds over Carle/Daniell. Beall and Hamrick were 1.68 seconds off the lead at the finish line.
Meyer and Ritchie will have a chance to compete at the Pan American Games July 10-26 in Toronto, Canada. The women’s 2x is one of six women’s medal events at the Pan Am Games along with the 1x, LW1x, LW2x, 4x and 2-.
The first race of the 2x at the Pan Am Games is at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, which leads off all rowing events. Rowing events are from July 11-15.
