IRA Blog - Snap Queens
By Alicia Kapjian-Pitt
There was much anticipation and excitement surrounding today on the Lightweight team. Pictures were “grammed,” Facebook statuses were made, and the Twittersphere was infiltrated, all advertising Jordan Duval-Smith’s takeover of the @gostanford Snapchat.
With a morning greeting from inside the boat on the picturesque Lake Carnegie, the day was off to a smashing start. To recap, highlights from her day on Snapchat included: some speed work on the water; food antics and preferences by teammates (think waffles and free range at Whole Foods); snaps of teammates napping (not atypical for any of us); and just general antics (most of which featured hooligan Christine Cavallo with a saucy cameo from Mackenzie Crist, master winker extraordinaire).
After capturing our afternoon practice, greeting the men’s team, and showing the dangers of forgetting to stretch and slather (a phrase used to refer to the act of putting sunscreen on while also stretching out our muscles) the story came to rest around the 100-second mark. This “Day in the Life” did wonders in attempting to depict the gist of what our time in Princeton is like.
The goal of the takeover, and ultimately this blog, is to give people a look at what we do on a day-to-day basis. Granted, this week is different than every other week in that we are at Princeton and not on campus for the entirety of the week. Our team has an above average amount of gumption and humor. They are what make practicing, traveling, competing and anything else of or related to rowing so enjoyable. A typical day includes many laughs, spontaneous dance parties and an abundance of sweat (which is made even more bountiful by the New Jersey humidity) and hard work.
In other news, Jackie Huddle still has yet to come through on her promise to memorize the lyrics to singer Fetty Wap’s “Trap Queen.”
