Ten Named MPSF All-Academic

STANFORD, Calif. Ten Stanford women’s water polo student-athletes, the highest total in the conference, earned 2015 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation All-Academic accolades, which were announced by the league on Thursday morning. The Cardinal has had at least 10 league academic honorees for each of the past seven seasons.

Emily Dorst, Ashley Grossman, Dani Jackovich, Rachel Johnson, Jamie Neushul, Cassidy Papa, Gurpreet Sohi, Maggie Steffens, Gabby Stone and Anna Yelizarova were recognized for their combined work athletically and in the classroom. To be eligible, students must have a 3.00 or better cumulative grade point average, be at least a sophomore academically and have spent at least one academic year at the institution and must have competed in fifty percent of their team’s competition this season.

Ashley Grossman led the way with her third selection to the league’s all-academic squad. The senior has also been an academic All-American in each year of eligibility and is looking to go a perfect four-for-four in that department when those awards are announced in the coming weeks.

Emily Dorst, Gurpreet Sohi, Maggie Steffens, Gabby Stone and Anna Yelizarova each earned their second spots among the MPSF’s academic leaders. Dorst, like fellow senior Grossman, is going for her fourth academic All-America award later this month.

It’s the first such MPSF accolade for Dani Jackovich, Rachel Johnson, Jamie Neushul and Cassidy Papa.

Stanford won 25 games for the ninth consecutive season in 2015 and made history on May 10 by becoming the first host institution to win the NCAA Women’s Water Polo Championship. The national crown was the fifth in program history and the Cardinal’s fourth in the past five seasons. Stanford’s NCAA title capped a perfect 14-0 mark at Avery Aquatic Center and extended its home winning streak to 29 games.
