Woman of the Year Nominee

STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford field hockey’s Kelsey Harbin was selected as the Cardinal’s representative for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award, which recognizes the nation’s top collegiate female with outstanding achievements in academic endeavors, athletics excellence, community service and leadership.

Harbin, a human biology major, wrapped up her career on The Farm (2011-15) as one of the most accomplished field hockey players in school history. She is a three-time All-American – a feat accomplished by only one other player in program history – and co-captained Stanford to its first NCAA Tournament victory in school history in 2015.

Harbin had an outstanding senior season and was a Longstreth/NFHCA First Team All-American, All-Region first team selection, Norpac Player of the Year and NorPac All-Conference First Team. She was one of four finalists for the 2014-15 Honda Broderick Field Hockey Sports Award, given to the top player in the country. She also accumulated four NorPac Defensive Player of the Week honors, starting all 22 games during the season.

Harbin’s success in her senior campaign was a continuation of the hard work and successes accumulated earlier in her collegiate career. She earned Longstreth/NFHCA First Team All-America in 2013 and a third-team All-American in 2014, and claimed first-team All-Region honors in both seasons.

Along with her on-field accomplishments, Harbin excelled in the classroom and in the community. She is a two-time NFHCA All-Academic honoree and volunteered with multiple community service groups.

She spent time with Cardinal for Community – an outreach program for at-risk youth – and Servant Breakfast, which is a group dedicated to serving breakfast at local homeless shelters. She was also on the leadership team for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

It is the 25th year of the NCAA Woman of the Year Award and universities have nominated 480 student-athletes for the honor. The Woman of the Year selection committee will choose the top-30 honorees and determine the top three nominees from Division I, II and III schools. The nine finalists will be announced in September and the Woman of the Year Award will be presented in October.
