Youth Nationals Success

STANFORD, Calif. – Several Stanford women’s rowing signees enjoyed success at the 2015 USRowing Youth Nationals.

Elizabeth Sharis won a national title with Y-Quad Cities in the quad. She stroked the boat to an open-water victory in the A Final to give the club its second straight national championship in the event. Sharis also raced in the double, adding a silver medal to her haul.

Mariko Kelly competed with the San Diego Rowing Club in the quad. After winning the heat and advancing to the A Final, Kelly helped her squad edge out Long Beach in a photo finish for a bronze medal.

Two signees, Margaret Seaton and Anika Christofferson, rowed together as part of the Mt. Baker crew’s eight. The two rowers were the stroke pair that helped the boat qualify for the A Final where they finished fifth.

Jade Thornton from Mile Rowing Club rowed in a pair. She battled her way through the repechange and eventually made the B Final, winning the race by two seconds to finish seventh in the country.

The five individuals who enjoyed success at Youth Nationals are part of a class of 14 who have signed to join the Women of Stanford this fall.
