STANFORD, Calif - Four Stanford sailors earned All-America honors this week, as announced by the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association. The Cardinal had at least one representative in each of the three categories of All-Americans, including coed, crew, and women’s.
Senior captain Kieran Chung was named a coed All-America skipper with junior skipper Antoine Screve receiving honorable mention honors. This is Screve’s first All-America honor while Chung, this year’s recipient of the Robert Hobbs Trophy for Sportsman of the Year, was named an All-American last season.
Senior crew Haley Kirk was named an All-America coed crew for the second time in her career, the first coming in 2013. Also a captain, Kirk saw out the development of one of the nation’s most talented young group of crews this season.
Sophomore skipper Lily Katz rounded out the selections for the Cardinal, earning honorable mention All-America women’s skipper honors. A sophomore from Brooklyn, New York, Katz established herself as Stanford’s first-choice women’s skipper over the course of an impressive season.
The ICSA All-America Team is selected by a committee of coaches who represent the seven conferences in the ICSA. The committee evaluates competitors based on their competitive record in inter-conference competition as well as conference and national championships to select All-American skippers. For All-America crew selections, the committee also considers demonstrated leadership, outstanding body mechanics and boat handling skills along with results.
Stanford also finished fifth in the Fowle Trophy, a competition based on teams’ finishes at the six national championships throughout the year. The Cardinal racked up 75.05 points over the course of the men’s singlehanded, women’s singlehanded, match racing, coed racing, team racing, and women’s championships.
