EUGENE, Ore. – Jessica Tonn, a first-team All-America competing at the U.S. Championships this week, is among three Stanford athletes to earn Academic All-America honors.
Tonn will compete in the women’s 5,000-meter final on Sunday at Hayward Field. She was third on the same track at the NCAA Championships two weeks earlier and was ninth at the U.S. Championships last year in Sacramento.
Tonn was joined by Marco Bertolotti and Luke Lefebure on the Capital One Academic All-America Division I Track and Field/Cross Country teams for the 2014-15 academic year. Bertolotti and Lefebure were named to the men’s first team, and Tonn to the women’s second team.
Bertolotti, a grad student in mechanical engineering, competed in cross country and indoor track. Lefebure, a senior with a double major of statistics, and math and computational science, competed in indoor and outdoor track. Tonn, a fifth-year senior majoring in communication, competed in indoor and outdoor track.
Tonn ran the fastest 5,000 among collegians this year, a 15:18.85 that placed her No. 7 all-time among American collegians. Tonn, who carried a 3.61 cumulative grade-point average, earned six All-America honors. She repeated as Pac-12 10,000 champion and was named as the conference’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year for women’s track and field.
Lefebure was a five-time All-America and also received the Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, for men’s track and field. Lefebure ran a season best of 1:47.73 at the Payton Jordan Invitational. He carried a 3.75 GPA.
Lefebure and Bertolotti made up half of Stanford’s 2014 NCAA indoor champion distance medley relay team. Bertolotti carried a 3.51 GPA and earned an All-America first-team honor for that DMR.
Bertolotti helped Stanford cross country to second in the nation and ran a season best of 4:05.42 in the mile during the indoor season.
