HENLEY-ON-THAMES, England – With each day that passes by, excitement is building for the start of the Henley Royal Regatta.

A regatta established in 1839, the 176 year-old Henley Royal Regatta attracts crews from around the world. This year the event received entries from 526 crews in 18 countries.

The first day of competition will be tomorrow with a full day or racing. The five-day regatta is expected to provide a lot of great racing with the quality of competition in the field. Stanford will have to wait until Friday for their turn to race.

The Cardinal will have two boats competing. The varsity eight will race in the Remenham Challenge Cup and the quad will race in the Princess Grace Challenge Cup. Times for each race will be announced on Thursday.

The varsity eight begins the competition against fellow NCAA power Brown. The Bears finished third at the NCAA Championships as a team, while Stanford brought home sixth place. The Cardinal varsity eight did have a higher finish with fifth place in the Grand Final, compared to Brown’s seventh place.

For the first time since 1969, the finals day of the Henley Royal Regatta will be broadcast on BBC. All races will be streamed live on the HenleyRoyalRegatta YouTube page.
