BETHEL, Ohio – Freshman coxswain Madi Kist won three gold medals at the USRowing Club Nationals over the weekend.
Kist helped the Vesper Rowing Club capture the Colgan Cup, given to the club which accumulates the most overall points. Vesper finished with 14 gold medals, including three in events Kist competed in.
The first gold medal of the event for Kist came on Friday. She guided Vesper into the Intermediate 4+ Final and on to an impressive victory. Her boat finished in 7:11.578, which was nearly five seconds faster than the silver medalist Vesper B boat.
Kist led two boats into Sunday’s finals. She picked up her second gold with the Intermediate 8+, edging TBC Racing by a little over one second to reach the top of the podium. Kist’s boat finished with a time of 6:40.809. Next up she was in the coxswain seat for the Senior 4+ event. Racing with the Vesper B boat, Kist took home her third goal with a time of 7:17.462, one second ahead of the Badger Development boat.
In her freshman season, Kist coxed 10 races during the spring. She was primarily with the varsity four, guiding the boat to a pair of victories at the Lake Natoma Invitational as well as the Head of the Lagoon in the fall.
