STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford sophomore Sarah Helgeson was named to the U.S. U-21 Women’s National Team, as announced by USA Field Hockey this week.
Beginning in mid-June, athletes showcased their talents in front of an array of selectors in hopes of receiving an invitation to Junior National Camp. Among the Young Women's National Championship, National Futures Championship and Futures Elite Championship participants, the top 110 athletes were selected to attend either the U-21 Junior National Camp or the U-17/U19 Junior National Camp.
Helgeson had a strong freshman campaign with Stanford, earning NorPac All-Tournament Team honors and appearing in all 22 games. She was a three-sport standout athlete in high school, playing field hockey, basketball and track and field, and is one of the fastest Cardinal players.
Stanford opens its season against NCAA runner-up Syracuse (Aug. 28) at 4 p.m. and NCAA quarterfinalist Duke (Aug. 30) at 2 p.m. Both games will be televised on Pac-12 Networks.
