STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford freshman Amir Bashti has been named to the U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team roster by head coach Tab Ramos that will represent the United States at the 2015 Stevan Vilotic-Cele Tournament in Serbia.
The 23-man group will begin training in Subotica and starts tournament play against Serbia on September 3, before traveling to Senta for a match against France on September 4. The team will conclude the tournament with a placement match on September 7.
Bashti and the No. 8 Cardinal are currently in Santa Barbara, California preparing for tonight’s season opener against the Gauchos at 7:30 p.m.
This will be Bashti’s first go-around with the U.S. U-20 Men’s National Team following three camps with the U-18s. The San Jose Earthquakes Academy product was part of a 20-player roster that traveled to Medugorje, Bosnia & Herzegovina, for training camp in late April. He also participated in the U-18 MNT’s camp in Marbella, Spain, in December 2014, which included two matches against Germany’s U-18s. Bashti took part in his first U-18 camp in late October 2014 in Carson, California.
The Stevan Vilotic-Cele Tournament is the first test of a new U-20 cycle for the U.S. Bashti is one of five collegians on the roster.
Bashti, who scored a team-high 16 goals for the Quakes in 2014-15, put one home in his first outing with the Cardinal on August 17, accounting for Stanford’s first of two goals (79’) in its exhibition victory over CSU Bakersfield.
