STANFORD, Calif. - No. 6 Stanford held a 1-0 lead for nearly the entire game but was undone by a late equalizer and overtime goal by California, falling to the Golden Bears 2-1.

With just over four minutes remaining in the first period of extra time, the Golden Bears (5-3, 1-0 America East) put one home to complete their comeback. The loss is the first for Stanford (6-2, 0-1 America East) since the opening-day loss against Syracuse, also a 2-1 decision in the first period of overtime.

The Cardinal claimed an early lead in the 16th minute when Jessica Chisholm scored her third goal of the season on of a penalty corner set play. Maddie Secco received a Sarah Helgeson insertion and laid it off to Chisholm, whose powerful shot found the back of the net

In the 67th minute, California struck back with a Mara Gutierrez goal. Sydney Earle sealed the victory for the Golden Bears when she redirected a Paula Seibt pass past Dulcie Davies for the game-winner.

The Cardinal outshot California 12-11 but faced a 10-3 deficit on penalty corners. Davies made 7 saves, while Secco and Clemence Couteau had 3 shots apiece.
