Coach of the Week

STANFORD, Calif. - David Shaw has been named the Dodd Trophy Coach of the Week, as announced Monday by the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation and Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.

The Dodd Coach of the Week Award honors the football coach whose program embodies the award’s three pillars of scholarship, leadership and integrity, while also having success on the playing field during the previous week.

“When you look at the level of success Coach Shaw has had both academically and on the field, it speaks to what kind of leader he is,” said Jim Terry, Chairman of the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation.

“To not only lead your program to multiple bowl appearances and Pac-12 championships, but do it while carrying the nation’s highest graduation rate, it’s reflective of who we want representing this award.”

In the classroom, Shaw has maintained the high level of academic expectations that come with being a Cardinal student-athlete. Over the past four years, Stanford has a 99 percentage graduation rate, good for best in the country. Also under his tutelage, the team has posted an Academic Progress Rating (APR) score of 987 out of a possible 1,000, which is fifth-best nationally. Former strong safety Jordan Richards become the university’s 12th National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete inductee last year.

This past week, unranked Stanford went on the road to USC and took down the sixth-ranked Trojans, 41-31. The victory propelled the Cardinal to a No. 21 ranking in this week’s AP Top 25.

Shaw boasts an overall record of 44-13 and 29-8 in Pac-12 Conference play.

The Dodd Trophy -- along with the Dodd Trophy Coach of the Week Award -- celebrates the head coach of a team who enjoys success on the gridiron, while also stressing the importance of scholarship, leadership and integrity.

The winner of the 2015 Dodd Trophy will be announced in Atlanta during Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl Week. A panel consisting of all previous winners, national media, a member of the Dodd family and a College Football Hall of Fame member will identify the final list of potential recipients at the conclusion of the 2015 season.
