Pac-12 Preseason Poll

SAN FRANCISCO – Stanford was picked to finish second in the Pac-12 when the conference announced the results of the preseason coaches’ poll on Wednesday morning at the league’s annual Media Day in San Francisco.

The Cardinal totaled 104 points. Oregon State was the leading vote-getter, garnering 11 first-place votes and 121 points. Arizona State was third with one first-place vote and 102 points. California (88 points) and UCLA (88 points) tied for fourth while Washington (68 points) rounded out the top half of the poll in sixth.

The results snap Stanford’s 15-year streak at the top of the preseason poll. Before Wednesday, UCLA was the last team to finish atop the preseason rankings, receiving the honor two straight years in 1998-99 and 1999-2000.

The Cardinal finished third in the Pac-12 in 2014-15 with a 13-5 mark, but rallied through Seattle to claim the program’s 11th Pac-12 Tournament Championship in 14 tries and earn the league’s automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament. The Cardinal, which has been to 28 consecutive tournaments, advanced to the Sweet Sixteen for the eighth straight year and with a 26-10 overall record, won at least 20 games for the 14th straight season.

USC (60 points), Oregon (52 points), Colorado (39 points), Washington State (30 points), Utah (23 points) and Arizona (17 points) rounded out the rest of the poll.

Stanford kicks off its regular-season at UC Davis on Friday, Nov. 13 and begins its home schedule on Saturday, Nov. 21 when it hosts George Washington in Maples Pavilion. Highlighting the Cardinal’s challenging non-conference slate is the continuation of its storied rivalry with Tennessee, which is scheduled to visit Maples on Wednesday, Dec. 16 in a game carried on ESPNU.
