Since Stanford football’s resurgence less than a decade ago, the Cardinal has had a near-unbroken line of running back stars: Toby Gerhart, Stepfan Taylor, Tyler Gaffney, and now Christian McCaffrey.
Gerhart, a narrow runner-up in the 2009 Heisman Trophy balloting, is regarded as the greatest Stanford back of the modern era. But Gerhart may have a successor in McCaffrey. Only a sophomore, McCaffrey is putting up numbers beyond even Gerhart’s.
