Men's Water Polo

Record-Setting

Former Stanford All-American Tony Azevedo is regarded as one of the greatest men’s water polo players in the history of the sport. A part of the deep tradition of the Stanford Men’s Water polo program, Azevedo is now the captain of the United States Men’s Water Polo National Team.

Azevedo, recently voted the Pac-12 Conference Player of the Century, now has a successor to the Cardinal scoring throne he held for the past decade. Senior Bret Bonanni finished with six goals in the Oct. 31 victory over Long Beach State to secure his place as the Stanford and Mountain Pacific Sports Federation career scoring leader.

Bonanni is the only Cardinal to post multiple 90-goal seasons, and is on pace to achieve the feat a third straight year with 73 scores already this year.

With three regular-season games and the postseason left to play, only time will tell how far Bonanni’s scoring prowess will reach.
