Three finalists will be chosen and the winner will be announced Dec. 21.

Sophomore running back Christian McCaffrey, the NCAA leader in all-purpose yards and a Heisman Trophy candidate, was named one of four finalists for the Paul Hornung Award, and a semifinalist for the Doak Walker Award, Maxwell Award and Walter Camp Award.

Senior offensive guard Joshua Garnett was selected a semifinalist for the Outland Trophy, while senior quarterback Kevin Hogan is a semifinalist for the Davey O’Brien Award and in the running for the Manning Award, senior inside linebacker Blake Martinez for the Butkus Award, and junior tight end Austin Hooper for the John Mackey Award. McCaffrey, a product of Castle Rock, Colorado, averages 242.0 all-purpose yards/game and has touched the ball 258 times. Mostly used at tailback, he also lines up in the slot, at wildcat quarterback and wide receiver, and returns punts and kickoffs.

Tough, fast, durable and sure-handed, McCaffrey has accounted for three of the nine 300 all-purpose yard games in college football this season, and has surpassed 200 yards seven times. He rushed for a school-best 263 yards and four touchdowns against UCLA and has already set Stanford records for consecutive 100-yard rushing games (8) and single-season all-purpose yards (2,418). He also averages 28.0 yards on kickoff returns, tops in the Pac-12 Conference.

The Hornung Award announcement was made by the Louisville Sports Commission and is presented to the most versatile player in major college football. The other finalists are Adoree’ Jackson of USC, Robert Nkemdiche of Ole Miss and Jabrill Peppers of Michigan. The winner will be announced on Dec. 11.

He is one of 16 contenders for the Davey O’Brien Award. Three finalists will be chosen Nov. 24.
