Still Unbeaten by the Beavs

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Three Cardinal tallied 12 kills as the seventh-ranked Stanford women's volleyball team swept Oregon State, 25-23, 25-21, 25-18, Sunday, at Gill Coliseum in Corvallis, Oregon. The Cardinal, which improved to 63-0 all-time against Oregon State, moves to 17-5 overall and 11-3 in the Pac-12, while the Beavers fall to 5-19 and 3-11 in the conference.

Redshirt sophomore middle blocker Merete Lutz hit .647 with 12 kills on 17 swings and just one error. Senior Brittany Howard also tallied 12 kills, hitting .400, and collected five digs. Freshman opposite Hayley Hodson was the third Cardinal with 12 kills. Hodson also racked up 10 digs for her 10th double-double of the year and she tied her career high with three aces.

Senior outside hitter Jordan Burgess finished with five kills and tied freshman libero Halland McKenna with a match-high 11 digs. Redshirt sophomore Ivana Vanjak hit .444 with five kills and two blocks. Senior setter Madi Bugg had 39 assists and nine digs. Offensively, she was 5-0-6 for an .833 attack percentage.

It was déjà vu in the first set for the Cardinal, which trailed the Beavers 17-11 before coming back for a 25-23 set-victory. Stanford also trailed Oregon 17-11 in the first set on Thursday and came back to win 25-23.

Stanford, which leads the Pac-12 in conference matches in attack percentage, hit .365 as a team while holding Oregon State to a .248 clip. The Cardinal also led in the digs column, 48 to 35.

Katelyn Driscoll hit .320 with 11 kills to lead Oregon State. Sophomore Mary-Kate Marshall added 10 kills and four digs for the Beavers.

Stanford remains on the road next week at the Washington schools. First up, the Cardinal faces the third-ranked Huskies in Seattle on Thursday, Nov. 12 at 8 p.m. PT on ESPNU.
