STANFORD, Calif. - Human biology major Joshua Garnett won the Morris Trophy, given annually to the most outstanding offensive and defensive linemen in the Pac-12 Conference. Earning the honor on the defensive side of the ball was Oregon’s DeForest Buckner.
The award is selected by the student-athletes with the league’s starting offensive linemen voting for the defensive winner, and vice versa.
Garnett is the fifth Cardinal -- and fourth offensive lineman -- to earn the award, joining Willie Howard (1999), Kwame Harris (2002), David Yankey (2012) and Andrus Peat (2014).
Garnett, a senior offensive guard and winner of the Outland Trophy, has been named first-team All-America by Sporting News, FWAA, Walter Camp and the Associated Press.
The Morris Trophy is sponsored by the Washington Athletic Club, the 101 Club, Athletic Awards and the Morris Trophy Foundation. It was created by Traci (Morris) Drake in 1980 and named after her father, G. Patrick Morris.
