STANFORD, Calif. -  Back in action after more than three weeks since its last dual, the Stanford wrestling team dropped a 22-16 decision to visiting CSU Bakersfield, Thursday, at Maples Pavilion in Stanford, California.

Stanford (2-2, 1-1 Pac-12) won just four of the 10 bouts and gave up bonus points in three of its losses. CSU Bakersfield moves to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in the Pac-12.

After redshirt freshman Brian Rossi dropped a 12-8 decision to Sergio Mendez at 125 pounds, sophomore Mason Pengilly put the Cardinal on the board with a 9-3 decision over Carlos Herrera at 133 pounds. Pengilly tallied a takedown, six near fall points and 2:02 of riding time in the win. He is now 7-4 on the season.

The Roadrunners won the next three bouts to pull out to a 15-3 lead before the 10 minute television intermission.

Out of the break, redshirt junior Jim Wilson, ranked fifth nationally, turned in a dominating 10-1 major decision against Adam Fierro at 165 pounds. There was no score going into the second period, where Wilson rode Fierro out to rack up 2:00 of riding time. In the third period, Wilson notched an escape to go with two takedowns and four near fall points. The win moves Wilson to 7-1 on the year and 4-0 in duals.

At 174 pounds, redshirt sophomore Keaton Subjeck nearly knocked off seventh-ranked Bryce Hammond. Subjeck jumped out to a 6-3 lead after the opening period with a quick takedown and four near fall points. Tied 6-6 going into the final period, Subjeck scored a late takedown, but Hammond managed to turn it into a reversal to keep the scored knotted at 8-8.

In the extra period, Hammond secured a late takedown and tacked on two near fall points for the 12-8 sudden victory decision. Subjeck drops to 6-3 on the year and 2-2 in duals.

Redshirt junior Zach Nevills added to the Cardinal’s team score with a 7-0 decision over Dylan Bollinger at 184 pounds. Nevills improves to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in duals this season.

Redshirt sophomore heavyweight Nathan Butler capped off the scoring with a fall in 6:54 over Matt Williams. It marked the second fall of the season for Butler, who moves to 5-1 overall.

Up next, Stanford travels to Reno, Nevada for the Reno Tournament of Champions on Sunday, Dec. 20. The Cardinal will also wrestle in the Southern Scuffle during the Holiday break on Jan. 1-2 in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
