Daughter's Double-Double

STANFORD, Calif. – Playing in front of friends, family and her father, CSU Bakersfield head coach Greg McCall, Stanford junior forward Erica McCall notched her eighth double-double of the season in No. 12 Stanford's 83-41 win over the Roadrunners in Maples Pavilion on Tuesday.

The younger McCall went for 15 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks. She was honored in a pregame ceremony, flanked by her father and Stanford head coach Tara VanDerveer, for her sterling summer with USA Basketball. McCall co-captained the United States to a gold medal at the World University Games in Gwangju, South Korea in July. She finished the event tied for eighth overall in scoring (15.2), was eighth in rebounds (8.5), tied for third in blocks (1.8) and led all players in South Korea in field goal percentage, converting 37 of her 62 attempts from the floor (.597).

Stanford (9-2) is next in action on Monday, Dec. 28 after at 7 p.m. when it hosts Chattanooga (8-4). Mini plans and single-game seats are available by calling 800-STANFORD or visiting gostanford.com/tickets.

TURNING POINT » Up seven with 6:04 left in the second quarter, Stanford closed the half on a 17-0 run to take a 42-18 lead at the break. Kaylee Johnson had nine of her 11 points during the run, converting three of her four field goals off of offensive rebounds. The Roadrunners (2-11) closed the first half by missing 10 straight shots.

ROUNDING IN TO FORM » Johnson, who scored in double figures six times as a freshman, has now put up 10+ in three straight games. Against Tennessee, Cornell and CSUB, she has combined to go 12-of-15 from the floor (.800) while averaging 10.3 points and 7.7 rebounds. She was one of four Cardinal in double figures on Tuesday. Alanna Smith (14) and Karlie Samuelson (13) joined Johnson and McCall with double-digit scoring efforts.

BLOCKS » McCall blocked four shots, Tess Picknell swatted three in seven minutes of late-game action and Stanford tallied 12 as a team. That total is tied for second in Cardinal single-game history with games against New Mexico (2013), UC Davis (2012) and Massachusetts (2000). The school record of 13 was set on Feb. 3, 1989 against Arizona State. Stanford entered the game 25th in the nation in blocked shots per game (5.6).

BOARDS » After getting out-rebound by 15 at Texas on Dec. 13, Stanford has responded by beating its next three opponents on the glass by considerable margins. It pulled down 11 more than Tennessee, 26 more than Cornell and 25 more than Bakersfield. The Cardinal's 61 total rebounds against the 'Runners is the seventh-best single-game effort in school history and most since Nov. 30, 2012 at UC Davis (62). Stanford has only totaled 60 or more rebounds eight times.

ASSISTS » Stanford has handed out at least 20 assists in back-to-back games for the first time since Jan. 2014. The Cardinal had one 20-assist game all of last season.

GOING LOWER » Three days after holding Cornell to 22.6 percent shooting, the Cardinal improved in that category and held CSUB to just 19.1 percent from the floor. It's only the fourth time since 2007-08 Stanford has held an opponent below 20 percent. Stanford came into Tuesday's game seventh in the country in field goal percentage defense (.326) and lowered its number in that category to 31.3 percent after the win.

GOING LOWER II » Stanford held CSUB to the program's worst shooting performance and to the fewest amount of points at the Division I level. The previous lows were 28.3 percent against Arizona State earlier this year (Nov. 29) and 45 points against Nebraska on Dec. 13, 2014.
