STANFORD, Calif. – The USRowing roster for the 2015 Under-23 World Championships was announced on Thursday with two Stanford men’s rowers selected.
Freshman Will Spencer had automatically qualified for the team after winning the coxed four at the U-23 trials on June 24. Spencer will be sitting bow seat for the boat heading to Plovdiv, Bulgaria July 22-26.
Senior Kaess Smit was also chosen among the 59 USA athletes who will be competing at the U-23 World Championships. Smit will race with the men’s coxed eight and will sit three seat. This is the third straight year Smit will be racing at the U-23 World Championships. He won a bronze medal with the coxed eight last year in Varese, Italy and in 2013 he took home a bronze in the coxless four in Linz, Austria.
The last time Stanford had two representatives at the U-23 World Championships was 2010 when Dane McFadden and Alex Syverson were each part of the coxless four that placed seventh overall in Brest, Belarus.
