STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford field hockey rising sophomore Sarah Helgeson was named to the Team USA U21 roster, as announced recently by USA Field Hockey.
Helgeson earned a roster spot after being selected for Junior National Camp in Lancaster, Pa. She will pursue a position on the team to compete at next year’s Junior Pan American Games in Trinidad and Tobago.
Helgeson had a strong freshman campaign with Stanford, earning NorPac All-Tournament Team honors and appearing in all 22 games. She was a three-sport standout athlete in high school, playing field hockey, basketball and track and field, and is one of the fastest Cardinal players.
Helgeson will return to Stanford this fall as the Cardinal begins its 17-game schedule Aug. 28 against Syracuse.
Stanford registered the most successful season in school history and continued to establish itself as one of the nation’s elite programs during 2014.
The Cardinal claimed its first NCAA Tournament victory in program history, recorded a 19-3 record and achieved a program-high No. 3 national ranking for three consecutive weeks (Oct. 14-Nov. 2). Stanford went 4-1 against top-10 opponents and 6-2 against the top 20.
The Cardinal returns 15 letterwinners and added five freshmen for the 2015 campaign.
