Cardinal to Watch

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford junior goalkeeper Jane Campbell and sophomore midfielder Andi Sullivan were named to the watch list for the Missouri Athletic Club’s Hermann Trophy, the highest honor in collegiate soccer.

The Cardinal is one of five teams in the nation to have multiple representatives on the watch list, which consists of 28 women’s soccer players.

Campbell, a psychology major, registered 14 shutouts in 2014 to tie for the second-most in Stanford single-season history and tied for 16th in NCAA Division I history. She earned a 19-2-3 record, boasting a 0.59 goals-against average and .794 save percentage with 54 saves on the year.

Sullivan made an immediate impact in her debut season, controlling the midfield as a key distributor to the offense and significant contributor in the defensive end. She was a NSCAA All-Pacific Region second team selection and named to the All-Pac-12 first team. Sullivan was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year and the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Freshman of the Year.

The duo were centerpieces to a Stanford team that registered 17 shutouts to tie for the second-most in program history. They helped lead the Cardinal to nine consecutive shutouts to start the 2014 season – the most shutouts to start a season in Stanford history.

Stanford has had three winners in the past six years and 14 Cardinal over the past decade have made the watch list or been semifinalists.

In 2011, Teresa Noyola became the third consecutive Stanford player to win the Hermann Trophy, following Christen Press in 2010 and Kelley O’Hara in 2009. With Noyola’s victory, Stanford became the first to have three different winners in as many years.

Along with Campbell and Sullivan’s selection to the watch list, Stanford men’s team members Jordan Morris and Brandon Vincent were named to the men’s watch list making Stanford the only school in the country to have multiple representatives on both lists.

Near the end of the collegiate regular season, NCAA Division I coaches will vote on their top 15 choices. The list will be narrowed down to three finalists and the winner will be announced in January.
