PULLMAN, Wash. - Stanford opened its fall season with a 142-119 victory at Washington State on Friday afternoon.
The Cardinal won 10 events overall, highlighted by a pair of victories from Janet Hu (50-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke) and Nicole Stafford (100 free, 200 free).
Hu and Stafford also factored into Stanford’s lone relay triumph, joining Heidi Poppe and Julia Ama as the Cardinal clocked in at 1:44.04 in the 200-yard medley.
Coming off a rookie season in which she notched 13 All-America honors, Lia Neal claimed the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 56.19. Returners Sarah Haase (100-yard breaststroke) and Ally Howe (200 fly) also collected victories.
Freshmen Ella Eastin (500 free) and Leah Stevens (1,000 free) recorded victories in their first collegiate meet.
Stanford returns to action on Oct. 16, hosting Utah at the Avery Aquatic Center.
