Homestand Continues

STANFORD, Calif. - No. 6 Stanford continues its season-opening homestand this weekend with matchups against Indiana and Miami (Ohio) at the Varsity Turf.

The Cardinal (1-1, 0-0 America East) hosts Indiana (1-1, 0-0 Big Ten) on Friday at 3 p.m. (PT) and Miami (Ohio) (1-1, 0-0 MAC) on Sunday at Noon.

Stanford opened its season this past weekend with games against two top-five programs. No. 4 Syracuse beat Stanford 2-1 in overtime on Friday (Aug. 28), but the Cardinal rebounded to topple No. 5 Duke 3-2 in overtime on Sunday (Aug. 30).

Down 2-0 to the Blue Devils at halftime, Stanford got second-half goals from Maddie Secco and Kristina Bassi to send the game to overtime. Casey Deeds scored the winner in the first overtime period after a strong run into the circle by Caroline Beaudoin.

Secco leads the Cardinal in goals (2) and points (4). Lauren Becker, Fran Tew, Beaudoin, and Millie Stefanowicz each have an assist.

Friday will be the first meeting between Stanford and Indiana since 2011, a game won by The Cardinal 3-2 at the Varsity Turf. The Hoosiers opened their season with a 5-1 win over Missouri State but lost 3-0 to No. 12 Louisville on Sunday.

The Cardinal last faced Miami (Ohio) in 2012 during the NCAA play-in game, which Stanford won 4-1. The Redhawks started their season last weekend with a 3-1 loss to No. 7 Albany, followed by an 8-0 win over Saint Louis.
