Ducks Top Card In Eugene

EUGENE, Ore - Three Cardinal scored in double figures, but Stanford fell short of a second straight road victory in Oregon with a 71-58 defeat to the Ducks on Sunday night at Matthew Knight Arena in Eugene, Ore.

Sophomore Michael Humphrey, who finished with 18 points, scored on three straight possessions via a dunk, three-pointer and mid-range jumper for a 9-6 lead at the first media timeout.

Stanford's advantage grew to 15-9 after Grant Verhoeven's jumper at the midway point of the half. But Oregon slowly closed the deficit and regained the lead, 21-20, with 3:14 left in the half.

The Ducks pushed their lead to 28-24 at the break.

Just as he did to start the game, Humphrey scored seven of Stanford's first nine points in the second half, and got the Cardinal within one, 35-34, at the 14:50 mark.

However, Stanford made just one field goal over the next seven minutes and fell behind, 52-39.

The Cardinal closed within single digits on several occasions, but was never closer than seven in the closing minutes.

Humphrey finished with a team-high 18 points in addition to five rebounds. Senior Rosco Allen scored 13 points and led the Cardinal with seven boards and three steals. Marcus Allen added 12 points and Christian Sanders led the team with four assists. But the Cardinal, which won at Oregon State on Wednesday, finished just 19-of-50 (38.0%) from the field, and was outrebounded 38-22.
