BERKELEY, Calif. – No. 3 Stanford (3-0, 2-0 MPSF) continued its solid start Saturday night as it topped No. 7 Cal (1-2, 0-2 MPSF) and No. 20 Southern California United. The Cardinal took the title with a team score of 438.050 followed by Cal at 426.950 and SC United at 365.900. The Cardinal collected team and individual wins in five of six events.

The Cardinal came out red-hot on floor with Gabe Flores notching a 15.650 and Taylor Seaton collecting a 15.150, both career bests. Akash Modi stepped up for a 15.600 as Stanford took the team win 75.200 to better their 73.700 from Monday’s season opener.

 “We had a tough start to some of the events,” said head coach Thom Glielmi, “The team really showed their mettle by staying competitive throughout the competition. There were certainly some highlights, and I was really pleased with Taylor Seaton and Dennis Zaremski’s performances on the night.”

Stanford kept the momentum up headed into pommel horse with Andrew Misiolek leading the way with a 14.500 score. Drew Burton helped secure the team win as well with a career-best 13.750 as Stanford edged both Cal and SC United with a team score of 69.300.

The Cardinal kept on pace on rings with Dennis Zaremski took home the individual title with a 15.850. Josiah Eng kept on his phenomenal season, nailing a 15.250 to better his ring score from Monday’s season opener. Stanford stayed consistent as they took their third event of the night with a team score of 74.400.

Taylor Seaton stepped up again in vault to claim the individual title with a 15.150, followed with Gabe Flores’ 14.650. Cal put up its best performance on the night though with all six athletes posting 14.600 or better to take the team title.

The Cardinal fired back in the parallel bars though with Dennis Zaremski crushing a 15.050 score for his third individual title of the year. Akash Modi gave Stanford a boost to the team title with a 14.950 as the Cardinal took its fourth event of the night with a 73.050 team score.

Stanford closed out the night with Akash Modi tying a career-best 15.100 on high bar while Robert Neff posted a 14.700. Drew Burton continued the Cardinal’s solid performance with a career-best 14.400 as Stanford closed out the competition for its third win of the season.

The Cardinal returns to action next Sunday facing off against Cal and Ohio State in Berkeley, Calif.
