MUNCIE, Ind. – The 13th-ranked Stanford men’s volleyball team opened the 2016 season with a sweep at No. 14 Ball State (25-14, 25-21, 25-18), Friday, in Muncie, Indiana.

As a team, Stanford hit .465 while holding Ball State to a .221 clip. The Cardinal sided out at an 85 percent rate for the match and held a 28-18 advantage in digs.

Senior Madison Hayden led the team with 13 kills and six digs, hitting .428. Redshirt junior Gabriel Vega hit .615 with 10 kills on 13 swings and just two errors.

Senior setter James Shaw controlled the offense with 30 assists. The Woodside, California native also notched five kills, four digs and four service aces. Sophomore Evan Enriques got the starting nod at libero and finished with seven digs.

Senior middle blocker Conrad Kaminski finished 7-1-12 (.500) and three blocks, while redshirt sophomore Kevin Rakestraw tallied four kills and two blocks. Freshman Jordan Ewert recorded three kills and three digs in his collegiate debut.

Marcin Niemczewski led the Cardinals with 12 kills, while Brendan Surane added nine kills on .316 hitting.

Stanford wraps-up the opening weekend on Saturday, Jan. 9 at IPFW. The Cardinal and Mastodons square off at 4 p.m. PT at Arnie Ball Court in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
