LA QUINTA, Calif. – Freshman Brandon Wu’s 4-under 67 in the first round of The Prestige at PGA West paced Stanford on Monday.
Wu, who is second among individuals, started his round at the par-71, 7,046-yard Greg Norman Course with consecutive birdies and never looked back. He was 3-under before stumbling on the par-3 13th, but answered with two birdies on the next three holes to finish one shot behind Pepperdine’s Frederick Wedel (-5).
LSU posted a 7-under 277 to take the opening-day lead over the Cardinal (-2). USC is third at 1-over.
Maverick McNealy had only one bogey to finish tied for third at 3-under. Bradley Knox is tied for 11th after contributing four birdies against three bogeys.
Isaiah Salinda is tied for 18th while neutralizing four birdies with five bogeys.
Jeffrey Swegle (+4) and David Boote (+5) each managed a pair of birdies in the first round.
