STANFORD, Calif. – No. 17 Stanford notched its fifth shutout of the season on Tuesday, sweeping Santa Clara 4-0 at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
The Cardinal (5-1) started off a bit sluggish in doubles play, but came back strong as Tom Fawcett and Sameer Kumar posted a 6-3 win in the No. 2 spot with Michael Genender and Yale Goldberg clinching the point seconds later at No. 3 with a 6-4 final.
Kumar and Fawcett continued their dominant singles campaigns, both pushing their current win streaks to six. Kumar closed out first with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at No. 4 with Fawcett making it 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 1.
Michael Genender collected his first career match clinching point, producing a 6-3, 6-3 win in the No. 5 spot over Kamran Khan.
Stanford next travels to TCU on Saturday, Feb. 6, at 11 a.m. PT, followed by Texas on Feb. 7 at 1 p.m. Both matches will be played in Austin, Texas.
