NEW ORLEANS, La. – Led by senior All-Americans Lauren Kim and Mariah Stackhouse, the defending national champion Stanford women’s golf team resides in eighth place after Sunday’s opening round of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate at English Turn Golf and Country Club.

Kim carded a 4-under-par 68 to grab the individual lead in the 17-team event hosted by Tulane University. Stackhouse added a 69 and is tied for second. Kim collected six birdies, including three-straight at 15, 16 and 17, while Stackhouse made five birdies and went 3-under the last 13 holes.

“We had a great showing by our seniors today and it couldn’t have come at a better time,” said Anne Walker, the Mitch and Margot Milias Director of Women’s Golf. “I’m excited to see their names at the top of the leaderboard, that’s where they belong. The rest of the team isn’t far behind and is working hard to get back to form.”

As a team, the third-ranked Cardinal posted a four-player score of 8-over 296. Arizona and Oklahoma State share the lead at 1-under 287.

Sophomore Shannon Aubert carded a 78 (t-68), while juniors Casey Danielson and Quirine Eijkenboom shot 81 (t-77).

Due to the threat of inclement weather, Monday’s second has been changed to an 8 a.m. ET shotgun. The final round will be played Tuesday.
