NEW HAVEN, Ct. – The Stanford women’s squash team concluded the season by finishing sixth at the National Intercollegiate Championships at Yale.

The sixth-ranked Cardinal dropped Friday’s opener to third-ranked Princeton, 8-1. The squad rebounded on Saturday in the consolation semifinals to defeat No. 7 Columbia, 7-2, then lost a tough 5-4 decision to No. 5 Yale on Sunday.

“Great year,” said head coach Mark Talbott, whose team wound up 12-6. “Terrific senior leadership and contributions from our younger players. The future is very bright.”

The highlight was beating second-ranked Trinity, the program’s first-ever win against a top three opponent.

“A lot of firsts,” Talbott said.

Harvard defeated Pennsylvania, 5-4, to capture the 2016 Howe Cup and the national title.

This weekend, team members Maddie Gill, Tara Shannon, CC Ho and Sarah Bell will represent Stanford at the CSA Individual Championships at Chelsea Piers Club in Stamford, Connectricut.
