STANFORD, Calif. – No. 2 Stanford put out its highest team score since the scoring system was adjusted in 2012 and the second-highest score in the nation this season with a 447.700 final Saturday afternoon to best No. 8 California (431.550) and No. 11 Michigan (430.900). On the day, Stanford took team and individual wins in five events as well as the all-around.
The Cardinal (9-0, 4-0 MPSF) came out red-hot on floor, posting a season best 76.000 as a team. Akash Modi led the way for Stanford with a 15.7000 while teammates Jacob Barrus (14.800) and Ryan Sheppard (15.400) both posted career bests.
Modi kept things rolling for Stanford as he added another individual title on the night with a career- best 15.500 on pommel horse. Brian Knott followed up with a 15.100 to tie his season-best en route to Stanford winning another team event with a season-high tying 73.900.
In the third rotation the career bests kept on coming with Ryan Sheppard posting a 14.700. Akash Modi set a season-best with a 14.600, but the man of the event was Dennis Zaremski who added his third individual rings title of the season with a 15.200. The Cardinal took the team event with a 73.600 score to lead halfway through the meet 223.500.
Next up on vault season bests abounded with Robert Neff (14.550), Ryan Sheppard (14.750), Akash Modi (14.900) and Gabe Flores (14.950) all set or tied theirs. Flores led the Cardinal in the event as they tallied a 74.100 score, its second highest score this season.
Stanford stepped up next to crush parallel bars with a season-best team score of 76.900. Three Cardinal scored 15 or higher in the event and Akash Modi setting a season-best 16.050 to take the individual title as Stanford headed into the last event with a 13 point lead.
The final event saw Stanford stick nearly all of its landings on high bar as the first three Cardinal all posted 15.150 for a three-way tie in the individual title in the event. Stanford wrapped the meet with a final team score of 73.200.
Akash Modi also took home his third all-around title as well on the year with a 90.350 score, his second best score of the year.
The Cardinal jumps back into action next Saturday when it travels to Minneapolis to face Minnesota and Iowa. Meet time is set for 5 p.m. PT.
